Flatulence is a condition when excessive gas is generated in the stomach and intestine. Cardamom is known to stimulate digestion process of foods that are not easily digestible. Often cardamom is added in tea or is even chewed raw to prevent gas.
Ginger is rich in phenolic compounds like gingerol and shagaol. They help in enhancing digestion process by producing excessive saliva and digestive juices. Ginger also acts as a muscle relaxant. This property of ginger helps in passing out the excess gas from the body. So, whenever you experience flatulence; consume raw ginger with salt or ginger tea.
Avoid gas causing foods
There are many foods which can cause flatulence. The reasons can be due to the presence of fructose and raffinose, types of sugar. Also, foods rich in soluble fiber can cause gas as they digest in large intestine. We need to limit the consumption of these foods. They are broccoli, cabbage, onions, beans, sprouts, peas, raisins and bran.
People suffering from lactose intolerance must not consume cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese or buttermilk. Lactase is an enzyme present in intestine which digests lactose. Peppermint to combat bloating
Boil few peppermint leaves in water and strain it. Drink the water to get relief from gas.
Proper exercising helps in enhancing digestion process and thus prevents bloating. Make it a point to exercise daily for at least 30 minutes.
Papaya is a stomach friendly food. It is rich in nutrients like vitamin-a,c,k & e. Antioxidants are also found in abundance in this fruit. Avoid chewing gums
Sorbitol, xylitol and mannitol are some of the types of sweetening agents used in sugar-free diets and chewing gums. These sugar compounds are difficult to metabolise, which lead to the production of gas. Avoid consuming foods rich in these compounds.
Consume light meals
Try not to over eat and eat light meals. It is better to eat 6 small meals rather than 3 heavy meals. Chew slowly so that the food gets properly digested. Don’t swallow too much air while eating as it leads to flatulence.
Add Probiotic drinks in diet
Probiotic drinks and yogurt are beneficial for stomach. These sources of good bacteria help in proper digestion of foods and helps prevent bloating. Consume them after lunch and dinner to reap their benefits. You can also go for probiotic tablets.
Eat healthy foods
Try avoiding foods which have complex carbohydrates. These foods take time to digest and thus cause flatulence. Foods rich in artificial sweeteners and carbonated drinks are such examples. Consume foods which can get easily digested and provide all the nutrients. Your diet should include fruits, yogurt, rice, potatoes etc.
